EVTA Captain's Corner

Being the Captain

The Captain of the Team is one of the most valued players in the league, as it is through them, that our players continue to play and enjoy tennis. Captains who exhibit enthusiasm and sportsmanship, and are fair and encouraging to all of their teammates are the key to their team’s continued success. Many people are under the impression that being the captain is a time-consuming, complicated job. No statement could be further from the truth. It is knowing HOW to keep it simple that makes a great Captain and makes playing tennis fun and enjoyable.

1st Time Captain's

•  Captains must create a new team number each season. This step creates a team number and registers the captain on that team.

•  Click on the “Create a team On-Line” link located under the “League Play” section of the TennisLink homepage.

•  Select Section (USTA / Southern)

•  Select District ( GEORGIA )

•  Select Area (GA –Cartersville )

•  Select League (ex: 2008/2009 EVTA USTA Senior – Winter)

•  Select Flight (ex: senior women 3.5)

•  Enter Team Name

•  Select Home Courts – the easiest way to accomplish this is by clicking on the “Other Facility” button. When the facility locator window appears, type in the zip code of your home facility in the zip code box and then click on the ‘Search' button. When you see your facility, click on it. The facility locator screen will close and your facility will now appear within the ‘Home Courts' entry on the original team creation page.

•  Click “Create Team”

•  Follow the instructions on the screen for adding players and for making payments to USTA.

•  Write down your Team Number. Print a copy for your confirmation. You need this number to give to additional players who may register for your team at a later date. (NOTE: If you did not receive a ‘Congratulations' screen with an invoice number, then your team is not registered and a team number you have is not valid).

•  To register individual players on a team, follow these steps:

•  NOTE: If you are a captain registering players on a brand new team that you are in the midst of creating, proceed to step ‘b'. If you are a player registering for an existing team, be sure that you have your team number from your captain and then proceed to http://national.usta.com . Then, click on the “Register for a team” link under the “League Play” section.

•  Enter the USTA number of the player or players starting on Line #1 (NOTE: Captains be aware – The USTA number that was used to log into TennisLink will always appear on the first line of the registration screen. Do not register yourself twice!!).

•  Enter your new team number for the current season.

•  If you do not have a USTA rating, the system will prompt you to enter your self-rating. If you are a captain, please do not register players who need to self-rate UNLESS THAT INDIVIDUAL HAS INFORMED YOU OF WHAT LEVEL HE/SHE WANTS TO SELF-RATE AT!! If you choose a rating for another person and they do not agree with that rating, it cannot be changed once a match is played. If you self-rate for another person and a grievance is filed against that person for playing below their ability, you may be held responsible as well.

•  Once you have added all players, click the “Next Step” button.

•  The payment screen will then appear. Enter the necessary credit card information and then click the “Continue” button.

•  When the confirmation page is displayed, you are registered!!
